BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

Manuel Domínguez was born in Almería on December 5, 1954. Descendant of a family of painters is the son of the painter Diego Domínguez, brother of the painter Diego Domínguez Velázquez de Castro and also the grandson of a painter on the maternal side of Manuel Velázquez de Castro who was also a painter pharmacist of the Almeria town Zurgena. The list does not end here because his wife Carmen María Martínez and his daughter Blanca complete the painters' saga. His first studies took place at the San José School, which was located on Calle de la Reina in the same building where he was born and spent his childhood until he was 10 years old. At 12 years of age, his natural inclination to drawing led him to participate for the first time in an Outdoor Drawing and Painting Contest (May 1968) held in Almeria, and he won the First Prize for Children, category A, considerably strengthening his artistic vocation. He studied baccalaureate at the institute and then went to Valencia to study Fine Arts at the Escuela Superior de San Carlos, successfully completing the painting specialty in 1972. From then on, Manuel went on to dedicate himself exclusively to art, treating the most of his procedures such as oil, watercolor, even engraving, a technique he learned and put into practice at the School of Arts and Crafts in Almería, being a disciple of the engraver José García Lomas. The sculpture is another of his specialties in which it is worth mentioning his specialty in the portrait, modeling in clay to make busts later they are cast in bronze. In this stage of the School of Arts he meets his wife Carmen María Martínez, also a painter, with whom he shares his passion for outdoor painting, working tirelessly and with an attentive look at any motive that, in his opinion, deserves to be taken to the canvas. He obtains numerous awards in competitions of national and local character. In 1994 he was selected for a sample of contemporary Spanish painting at the Vianden Castle in Luxembourg. Performs individual exhibitions periodically in Almeria and in capitals such as Madrid, Valencia, Bilbao, Mallorca, Granada ... and towns such as El Ejido, Mundaka, Zurgena, Almuñecar ... etc. In 1986 he made a collection of drawings of Almeria motif that was published by the Voice of Almeria, as was the collection of 25 lithographs: "Rincones de Almería a la acuarela". Other collections were "Las Fuentes de Berja", "Laminas de Roquetas de Mar" and "Laminas de El Ejido", made with the technique of the nib. Several of his sculptures are placed in public space. The bust in bronze to D. Vicente Buendía in the business park of Puertollano that bears his name, commissioned by the Diputación de Ciudad Real. The bust in bronze to the parish priest D.
